Bob relayed his fascinating story of “Seven Ponds and The Incredible Dragonfly” and how businesses can benefit from biodiversity.

He explained why companies that lead on biodiversity will have significant opportunities to benefit from these efforts:

  • Positioning themselves to enter profitable new markets with enhanced environmental policies and data driven actions to reference
  • The improvement of their value proposition and their brand through demonstrating their response to public demand for sustainability
  • They can expect an improved standing with customers and investors
  • The opportunity to create interesting and exciting social value and wellbeing activities

The industry has been supporting Just a Drop for many years and continue to do so. So far the Association has given £66,884 across 9 borehole projects in Zambia reaching 2,305 people with safe water for the first-ever time.

At this Conference Members were raising funds for a further 3 projects. This time for broken boreholes installed by other organisations without Community involvement or training. This means that water has to be once again sourced from hand-dug wells and ponds, kilometres from their homes, with the danger of wildlife conflict and continuous illness from the dirty water.

Exhibitors and delegates raised funds through their registrations. It is certain that the remaining funds needed to complete the three renovations will be achieved by the AGM/General meeting being held on Thursday 26th September (NEW DATE).

Members gave generously throughout the day, ending in a lively game of Heads & Tails, won by Richard Martin, the WHA’s new Treasurer. Our sincere thanks to everyone who contributed to make these projects a possibility.
