While we enjoy the summer heat, the excessive temperatures being experiencing in some parts of the UK currently raise the chances of heat-related health issues as such as heatstroke, exhaustion and dehydration.
What can we do to stay safe in the heat?
Hydration is key and drinking the right beverage is the best solution.
The WHA recommends that drinking cool, refreshing water is the most effective way to stay hydrated. It makes up approximately 70% of our body weight so it makes sense that during really high temperatures we step up our fluid consumption.
You can also top up your fluids by eating foods with a high-water content. Fruits and vegetables like watermelon, cantaloupe, peaches, lettuce, tomato and cucumber can help you get even more fluids.
Stay indoors or in the shade, wear light loose fitting clothing and drink a glass of water at regular intervals, perhaps with lemon or cucumber slides to a little zest!
